Softscapes

Idaho Falls Softscaping

Many people have heard of the word “hardscaping” before, especially when it comes to their property. In fact, if you’ve been doing research on remodeling your yard, you’ve more than likely come across this word numerous times. Hardscaping is the term for the non-living elements of your landscape, such as your walkways, retaining walls, tables, fireplaces, or even the walls and countertop of an outdoor kitchen. Hardscape materials are frequently made of stone, brick, concrete, or metal.

Softscape features, on the other hand, are living elements of your landscape design. While your hardscape features may be the framework that your landscape is built around, your softscape features are what truly build it out and make it into the stunning place you can be proud of.

Our team can create beautiful, customized softscapes featuring:

  • Trees
  • Shrubs
  • Vines
  • Accent plants
  • Flowering plants
  • Fruiting plants

Creating the Perfect Softscape

Creating a beautiful landscape involves perfectly harmonizing both hardscape and softscape features. While hardscape features are difficult to change, your softscape features give you an immense level of flexibility and ongoing customization options. For example, seasonal flowers give you the ability to change colors and design styles throughout the year as the calendar progresses. Because these flowers often have short lifespan expectations, it’s not uncommon to replace them quickly, giving your yard a new and refreshed look.

However, some aspects of your softscape are also long-term decisions. For example, the size and shape of your lawn will likely remain the same for many years. Likewise, trees often need years or even decades to grow, meaning your landscape’s appearance may not reach maturity for years. This is why we strongly recommend working with one of our landscape designers to create a softscape that gives you the flexibility level you desire while also choosing the long-term plants and features that will serve as the bedrock for your softscaping for many years.

Sodding & Lawn Installation

A quality lawn is arguably the highlight of any landscape. Lawns are beautiful, colorful, and give any outdoor area a look of refinement and class. However, capturing that perfect lawn look requires a strong and stable starting point.

At The Yard Butler, we offer lawn installation and sodding services. Whatever the size or shape of your lawn, we can install the right type of grass for your situation. This means working with you to determine what kind of use your lawn will need to be able to withstand, what kinds of maintenance demands you’ll be able to keep up with, what kind of sunlight and watering considerations you’ll be working with, and so much more. Once we’ve made this determination, we can prepare your property and then either seed your new lawn so it can grow fresh or install your lawn directly with sod.

Sodding is the process of creating a new lawn with sheets or rolls of pre-grown grass. Sod is grass that is farm-raised and sold by the square foot in sheets. With the soil beneath properly prepared, sod can quickly and easily grow into your property, taking root and turning into a strong and beautiful lawn. A sodded lawn is often ready for foot traffic in as little as six to eight weeks, whereas a seeded lawn may need several months before it is ready for general use.
